Employment Pass Services Centre: The Application Process (Steps)

Let’s get it right, stepwise! Relax; keep calm; you will manage it!

Step 1: Check Whether You Qualify

Before you do anything, you should be sure you have satisfied the criteria to apply for the EP. Most often, you would need:

  • A job offer in Singapore
  • A fixed monthly salary of at least $5,000 (higher for more experienced candidates)
  • Acceptable qualifications (usually a good university degree, professional qualifications, or specialized skills)

Step 2: Involve the Employer

Here’s the deal: Usually, your employer will apply for the EP on your behalf. They will log on to the EP Online portal to initiate the application process. Make sure they have all the required documents from you: passport details, educational certificates, and work history.

Step 3: Online Submission

Your employer will complete the online application form and upload all required documents. The good thing about the online application is that you can literally track the application status in real-time. No more biting nails while waiting for snail mail!

Step 4: Wait for Three Weeks

Once the application is submitted, it takes about 3 weeks for the application to be processed. Go ahead; in the meantime, check out the best hawker centers. Might be worth doing for cultural integration purposes!

Step 5: Grants (Approval)

When the work pass has been approved (yay!), a letter called In-Principle Approval (IPA) will be sent to your employer. It is essentially a preliminary approval for your EP. Keep that letter; you will need it for the next step.

Step 6: Enter Singapore

With the IPA letter, you can now enter Singapore. Welcome to the Little Red Dot!

Step 7: Come and collect the card

At this stage, our employment pass service center comes to light. The center is where you go to register and collect your EP card. Make sure you have the documents your IPA letter specifies!

Tips For A Smooth Application Process

  1. Double-check Everything: Verify every detail prior to submission. Small mistakes could lead to delays or outright rejection.
  2. Keep Documents Ready: Have a digital copy of each of your documents handy before kicking off your application.
  3. Be Patient: The process may take time. Trust the system and do not keep checking if something is happening or has happened (easier said than done, I know!).
  4. Use Official Resources: The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) is your friend. They have detailed guides and FAQs that will answer most of your questions.
  5. Consider Professional Help: If it seems daunting, there are firms that specialize in EP applications. They will guide you through it for a fee.

Important Note: Rejection doesn’t equal the end of the world. Do not panic; rather, get back to the drawing board from which the EP submission was probably made within the last three months and try postponing the decision, acquiring more credentials, or jockeying for a nugget that’s a bit shinier with your employer.

Then, remember that your relationship with the Employment Pass Services Centre does not end there. They will support you through renewals, changes in terms of employment, and many other questions about EP as they arise during your stay in Singapore.
